Invented by 3M to mimic the look and feel of natural sponges, these things will sit in the landfill for hundreds of years after you throw them out. But not anymore. We've been using the sponges for months and they work great. We also chopped one up and threw it in our compost, and it seems to be totally biodegradable. How cool is that?
The directions suggest tossing the sponge in boiling water when it starts to get cruddy, which we have not tried but in theory would help prolong it's useful life.

As I mentioned, this product diverts waste from the landfill, just chop it up and toss it in the compost when you're done.
